I love red barns, particularly those with advertising.
One weekend, my husband and I headed to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania so that I could photograph my beloved red barns.  Sadly, every barn we saw during our afternoon drive was white.  I don't know why all of the barns were white (perhaps, dairy barns?), but I do plan to investigate.

Months later, my daughter and I took a detour due to a road closure, and there was the barn.  MY barn, in all its advertising-on-the-side-red-barn glory!  It was raining so we tucked the barn memory away for a later date.  A few weeks later, my talented daughter came through with Ceresota Flour barn photos that served as the inspiration for my painting.

I've included a work in progress photo so you can see how my oil paintings often start.  I use transparent colors for my underpainting to achieve vibrancy.
