Tarana Burke is a civil rights activist who founded the Me Too movement. In 2006, Burke began using the phrase "Me Too" on social media to raise awareness of the pervasiveness of sexual abuse and assault in society. In 2017 #MeToo went viral as women began using it to tweet about the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations. The phrase quickly developed into an international movement. Tarana’s passion for justice has taken her around the country and the world where she has been invited to speak at various conferences. She continues her work in service of young women of color as Senior Director of Girls for Gender Equity.
