Mrs. Bradshaw lived in the house on the corner with the big magnolia tree.
A few times a year, her sister Miss Christine would visit.
Together,
we would blow the insides out of fragile eggs, cut an oval viewing window
in one side, paint and glitter the exteriors, then create magical
scenes inside.
I was nine. This was the South. A magnolia tree symbolized good luck. And, good luck it did bring.
