I have a thing for pumpkins. Not the big carving kind. The little ones you grab at the farm stand because you can't help yourself. I set three of them on a piece of white linen in my studio and that's how Autumn Trio came to be.
What I love about this original oil painting is how the oranges came alive. I layered burnt sienna, cadmium orange, even some violet into the skins, and they ended up with this warm glow that feels like late afternoon sun. The white cloth underneath has more color in it than you'd expect. Blues, lavenders, cool grays. That's what makes those pumpkins pop the way they do.
The brushwork is loose and a little bold. I didn't fuss over details. I wanted this still life to feel like these pumpkins had just been set down, still warm from the field.
This original painting is 12x12 inches and looks gorgeous in that gold leaf frame. I can see this pumpkin painting in a kitchen, a dining room, a hallway where you want something that makes people stop for a second. It's perfect as autumn wall art or fall decor but honestly, I'd leave it up all year.
