Emerson the Sheep tips a jigsaw puzzle from its box, the pieces scattering across the farmhouse table. There is always one going. A neighbor pulls up a chair, finds an edge piece, stays longer than they planned. Emerson never rushes. He works the corners, then the border, lulled by the conversation around him.
