Fiona the Cat arrived at the party early and kept to the wall. The cake sat untouched. Its frosting was still perfect. The host set a small bowl beside it, then drifted off to greet the others. She noticed. Fiona always noticed. She stepped closer. First her nose. Then her whiskers. She lifted her head. A chocolate mustache marked her whiskers. She left it there. By the time the music began, three other cats wore chocolate mustaches of their own.
