She served as First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001, becoming the first American First Lady to win public office as Senator from New York (2001-2009) and later serving as Secretary of State (2009-2013). In 2016, she made history as the first woman to be a presidential nominee of a major political party. As First Lady, Clinton advocated for healthcare reform and was instrumental in creating the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
