BACKSTORY & painting process
My neighbor brought these flowers over one autumn afternoon. That sunflower was huge, almost too big for my favorite vase. She'd picked every zinnia left in her garden: oranges, corals, deep reds. Then she tucked in one peachy-pink rose from the arbor. Red berries spilled everywhere. I grabbed my sketchbook before she even left.
I worked on this painting for weeks. Started with those warm golds and oranges, then pushed into the coral territory I'd been wanting to explore. The rose was interesting. That peachy-pink glow tied all the warm colors together. The whole thing just vibrated with life.
I always start with vine charcoal sketches. Then I go in with acrylic for the big shapes and energy. Graphite adds definition. Pastel highlights bring dimension and energy. Several coats of varnish seal and protect everything.
This painting makes people happy. It's big enough to anchor a wall but not overwhelming. These rich tones bring warmth to any home. I love hearing from collectors who say it's the first thing they see in the morning, or how guests always comment on it. Radiant keeps that garden energy alive all year long.
